It ain’t Sunday, but it’s Yogi Berra’s 80th birthday today, so we thought it was appropriate to have a poll. After all, who else has contributed so much color to the English language?

  1. Don’t you just love Yogi? A visit to his museum is well worth it for adults as well as children.
    Happy 80th Yogi!

  2. I’m not voting. Yogi didn’t say any of the things he said. His son Dale wrote them. Isn’t that right, Dale?
    Dale, you out there?
    Defend yourself, man!

  3. I do truly love this guy. I think “When you come to a fork in the road, take it,” is quite profound, actually.

  4. Barista’s headline is MUCH better than the MC Times’ : “It ain’t over”.
    nice huh?
Who at the Times thinks these up?

  5. Here’s something: the Times indicated that the old “if you come to a fork in the road, take it” line came from Yogi giving directions to his home. Is it possible that the famous “fork in the road” is the fork you hit on Upper Mountain where you need to bear right to get to the baseball stadium and campus? I know his home is not in that direction though. I think someone should find the spot and erect a plaque. (Don’t laugh, I was once wandering around Winslow, Arizona and found a plaque at the only intersection in town that read something like “It was standing at this intersection in July 1971 that Don Henley got the inspiration to write the Eagles’ song . . . .”)

  7. A few years ago I bid on a night with Yogi at the Museum. My uncle from Ct came down, who was suffering from Lou Gerhig’s disease, along with my parents from Va. It was perhaps the best night he ever spent. Yogi and Carmen were gracious and my uncle was in heaven. Two months later he died and my dad spoke at his funeral about the “event” with Yogi. It was a life affirming thing. I will never forget how how he and Carmen treated us. They are truly a wonderful couple. Yogi you are a great man. Our family will never forget your kindness.

  8. jmo lives right by Yogi’s famous “fork in the road”
When we were kids (me and my sibs) in order for my mom to get rid of us for a 1/2 hour and get the kitchen floor washed, she would say “why don’t you all go to Yogi’s house and get his autograph”. So each Saturday we would march parade like up to Yogi’s front door and each recieve an autographed baseball card from Yogi’s maid (who always seem to have them in her apron pocket, ready to go).
    Thanks, Yogi! and Happy Birthday!

  9. Is that the famous “fork in the road”? Know it well. And you kind of just “take it,” like follow the road, sort of.
My son (with JMo’s son, if memory serves, in fact) used to knock on Yogi’s door on Halloween and the man himself would answer.
