Since we’ve already been invited to three New Year’s Eve parties, we started wondering when First Night Montclair was going to get into the fray and invite us for their family-style shindig. Turns out the planners are a little late to the table with their website and ticket sales (the First Night website is still not fully live), but they promise the whole shebang will be up and running tomorrow.
Highlighting the event will be Dr. John, and keeping in the New Orleans theme, events will kick off with a Zydeco band parade down Church Street at 7. Tickets will be $25 (with the limited seated Dr. John concert), or $15 without, and $5 for kids. Special kids events start even earlier than the parade. For more information and ticket sales starting tomorrow, click here.

  1. Why is it a celebration with a “New Orleans Theme” is “late” in your community, while other white-themed events are planned in a prompt manner?
Maybe the same level of concern over victims of Katrina is being applied to our community, and our desire to enjoy a New Orleans themed celebration.
And maybe that is why we are going to organize our own “parade” down Church Street at exactly the same as this racist event.

  2. To the fake Reverend: It’s amazing to see that you can wear a white hood and type at the same time. Now go back to your room and remind your parents that brothers and sisters aren’t supposed to have sex because it creates offspring like you.

  3. I don’t know who you’re calling “fake,” but we don’t need you to “let” us eat your words – we’ve eaten enough – for 400 years to be exact! So get in your time machine and take your discrimination and hate to Selma ’65! We aren’t taking it anymore.

  4. Oh dear. Still kickin’ about what happened 400 years ago? Wow. So many peoples of many different cultures have faced discrimination, racism, etc – sometimes you have to stop whining and live in your own life. Please stop playing the race card – we ALL have horror stories in our pasts!

  5. Joyce –
You might get tired of us playing the “race card” but you’re living with your head deep in the sand. You see, we have no choice but to play the race card when white people are not only the DEALERS AT THE TABLE, but the HOUSE as well! And we know that THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS, right?
So shut that white chicken ass of yours.

  6. Fake Rev. Al not funny.
Doctor John is a perfect choice to bring in the New Year. I’ll be there to celebrate the indigenous music and cultural heritage of New Orleans, and look forward to joining the second liners-Laissez les bons temps rouler!

  7. I’m sorry we don’t “amuse” you, Dirk Diggler. I realize you’re used to us dancing and entertaining you, right? “Weez good if weez makin’ you laff. right boss?”
We’re not here for your amusement, peckerwood. Remember that. Now go put on some Coltraine, or Louie Armstrong, or Stevie Wonder, or 50 Cent on your expensive stereo.

  8. uze good at makin yo self looks stupid, right?
Dr. John is white, and his music knows no racial boundries.

  9. Let’s hope SCHOOL BUS NAGIN and CONGRESSMAN, WILLIAM “90K IN THE FREEZER” JEFFERSON can make it.
They’d fit in great w/ the crooks up here.

  10. Rev you jus keep on reinforcin’ that stereotype! it’s shuh is gud pr for “your” peeps. An you just go on ahead feeling like a victim. That’s the positive way to show “your peeps” how to live — in victimhood!
    Right on bro!

  11. I’ll ask again why Barista doesn’t delete these posts. They’re pointless, and a waste of everyone’s time. I read them hoping for more info/insight about First Night and why it has taken until Dec. 11th for the folks running this event to even put out a press release.

  12. I would like to know why I have to read threads clogged by comments like the one posted by Ev. It is a total waste of time and space. I am NEVER, EVER, EVER coming back again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Rev Al- “Peckerwood”? That is a sissy-whiteboy word. This is obviously the self-perceived clever workings of a no-class cracker trying to get a rise out of people. Well, he has. A little bit. Let’s move on to the thread at hand. Please all, no more responses to this knot in the thread.

  14. Here-Here to “Onward”! Apparently you can buy First Night tix at the municipal building and some stores in town. Looks like a lot of work for these folks to do in a short time for this event. Pulling together 20 plus shows and 20 plus sites is no easy task I am sure. Kudos to the town for trying to make this event bigger and better every year, for everyone. As always, my family will surely be there.
