Black Friday 2011 Survival Guide

Black Friday 2011 is already in full swing, and the annual madness started at a Los Angeles Walmart with a woman pepper spraying other shoppers who got too close to her merchandise. There’s also some Occupy Black Friday protests planned. Our advice? Stay far away from anything resembling a mall or mega-store today. Head to any of Baristaville’s local shopping districts and shop local.

Here are all the Black Friday deals you can get locally in downtown Montclair without risking life and limb. In Upper Montclair, check out these stores. Find some unique gifts or the perfect book (the secret password for a 20 percent discount is “festivus”) at Watchung Plaza.

How about tickets to a show for someone special? Receive 30% off per ticket to any SOPAC-presented performance during the 11-12 season — buy purchasing tickets in person at the SOPAC box office (noon to 6 p.m.) today only. Mention the code Black Friday to receive this special deal.

If you did venture out to brave the throngs and score some kind of Black Friday deal — tell us your war story and whether you were victorious. If you’re planning on shopping today (local, local), what’s the one thing you are trying to cross off your gift list?

We went to “Karl’s” and bought a new washer & dryer set. Saved $50.00
I was as excited over that as was my wife was over my friend’s new Mitsubishi.

Karl’s had a few lOOOkers – but we were the only buyers, during the 30 minutes that we were in there.

"Whether that whole municipal move thing really pans out money wise still remains to be seen." Uh, the Police Department move is going to happen. There is no Plan B. The only thing still open is the negotiation.
