Montclair State University will host the New Jersey premier performance of the Broadway play 8 on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium.
The play is a dramatized account of Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, the California civil rights case filed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) that overturned Proposition 8, the ballot proposition passed in November 2008 that repealed the rights of same-sex couples to marry.
Writer Dustin Lance Black based the script of off court transcripts and interviews with the plaintiffs and defendants in the case.
8 opened at the Eugene O’Neil Theatre on Broadway in September 2011. AFER and Broadway Impact offered free license of the play to be performed at colleges and universities around the country.
University president, Dr. Susan Cole, will make a cameo appearance as the role of Judge Vaughn Walker.
Tickets for the one-night only performance can be purchased online or at Memorial Auditorium.
