Penny MacCormack Named as Montclair’s New Superintendent

Breaking: The Montclair BoE has just named Penny MacCormack as the new Superintendent. Read the district’s press release which gives background info on MacCormack here)

MacCormack will leave a position at the NJ Department of Education (DoE). According to the DoE’s website:

Penny MacCormack joined the New Jersey Department of Education as the Assistant Commissioner/Chief Academic Officer at the beginning of October 2011. Previously she served as Chief Academic Officer for Hartford Public Schools. Prior to her role as chief academic officer, Ms. MacCormack served as assistant superintendent for secondary schools. In this role she supervised 14 principals, led the transformation of three large comprehensive high schools into smaller schools focused on rigor, relevance and relationships and developed a performance-based graduation policy. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree from Albertus Magnus College, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Hartford.

    Five minutes on Google and already I have a splitting headache. When I read that MacCormack was picked to be our new Super, after just a few months after starting her new job in Oct of 2011, I was worried, to say the least. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. But the more I read about the Broad Foundation, the more this hire worries me. Some suggested reading…
