My family loves this Dan Zanes & Friends version of the labor song from the Depression, written by Jim Garland and originally performed by The Almanac Singers. It’s a good lesson on what Labor Day really means.
Here are some other great songs about working and Labor Day to listen to with the kids today:
- This Land is Your Land – I love Elizabeth Mitchell’s version on her latest album celebrating Woody Guthrie, Little Seed.
- I’ve Been Working on the Railroad – This is a cool version and video.
- Pay Me My Money Down – We love two versions of this song: this one by Dan Zanes and this one by Springsteen and The Seeger Session Band
- Whistle While You Work – This classic Snow White tune makes working a bit more fun.
