If you’re interested in either real estate or superstar athletes, you’ll probably enjoy the new HGTV series “Scoring the Deal.”
Kristen Cook, Nutley resident and VP of the Montclair-based Abrams Team, co-stars on the HGTV reality show with business partner Jason Abrams, dubbed by the industry as “The Jerry Maguire of real estate.”
The fast-paced show is a behind-the-scenes look at buying and selling homes for pro athletes. It premiered earlier this month, and airs Tuesday evenings at 11 and 11:30pm.
On tonight’s episodes, NFL defensive end Derrick Morgan looks for a more private Nashville home, and NFL running back Clinton Portis goes in search of a Miami condo with killer views.
Baristanet chatted with Cook about her experience on the series so far:
BN: How is the show going?
KC: It has been wonderful. It’s a lot of work. It’s what Jason and I do for a living.
BN: How did HGTV find you?
KC: Actually, things got started when the production company came to us. Then we fielded numerous offers from networks. We chose HGTV because of their level of professionalism. Our clients are extremely important to us, and we want them portrayed in a positive light.
BN: Is the show a fair portrayal of what you do?
KC: Yes. What we do for athletes is what we do for all of our clients. We want to find the right property for them, and we don’t want anyone to spend over their means.
BN: What do you think of the real estate market in Montclair and the surrounding area?
KC: Montclair is a beautiful place to live, and a great commute into New York City. It’s still a buyers market. Properties aren’t selling at what they used to. But there’s a massive amount of inventory, so that keeps it competitive. The rental market here is especially hot.
BN: Do pro athletes ever look for a home in our area?
KC: Of course they do. Members of the Giants and the Jets live in the vicinity of Montclair and the surrounding towns. But we want to protect their privacy, so I can’t tell you where.
