St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl - MontclairWhere will you grab a pint this St. Patrick’s Day? Some of your favorite local watering holes are celebrating all weekend long. Here’s a sample:

Every year is a party at Egan & Sons for St. Patrick’s Day, but this year it’s a little different. This year, it falls on a Sunday, it will be a weekend event:

We’re putting the tent up early. On Saturday, we’re having a huge dance party in the tent starting at 8 p.m. until closing. There will be drink specials out there and give-aways inside. Come Sunday, it’s no holds barred. We open at 10 a.m.

We’ll be offering an Irish breakfast followed by a day of more corned beef and cabbage and great beer than any one person can handle. There will be live music, step- dancers, and everything you’ve come to expect from Egan & Sons on St. Patrick’s Day. The dance party on Saturday night is going to be hot and the festivities on Sunday are everything you would expect for St. Patrick’s Day.

tierneysTierney’s Tavern: It’s always a good time here, but on St. Patrick’s Day, it’s the place to be — especially to see old friends.

There’s also The Office in Montclair, celebrating all weekend long with beer samples and Irish-inspired entrees.

At Fitzgerald’s 1928 in Glen Ridge, get in the spirit early, on Thursday, March 14, with Irish Session at 8 p.m. featuring Kevin McHugh from Dublin on Uillean Pipes. Then, on Sunday, the 17th, it’s a special St. Patrick’s Day menu.

Head to Bloomfield and get your green on at obalsObals Inn and Town Pub. Or go to one of the Barista’s favorite spots: The Orange Squirrel, where for the fourth year in a row, The Paddy Platter will be served (Friday & Saturday March 15 & 16) for $36. The Paddy Platter includes Mini Beef Shepherd’s Pie with Irish Cheddar Mash; Corned Beef Cabbage Roulades, Steamed and Topped with Guinness Glaze; Guinness Beer Battered Fish n’ Chips with Malt Vinegar and House Tartar & a Pint O’ Guinness Stout.

Old Canal Inn in Nutley celebrates with Irish whiskey specials and music this Friday and Saturday night.

At another local favorite — Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell — the party starts early with a 9:30 a.m. special breakfast.

  1. Morning all…and if you’re looking for something to wear, drink, eat, or just to get in the mood – Look for ” Church St. celebrates St. Pat’s Day ” as part of my Inside Montclair series.

I did a walking musical tour visiting some of our merchants on Church St.that will get you ready to visit one of the places listed above. You will find it on MP, or, go to my YouTube channel ( 22videoguy22 ) where you’ll also find past segments of Inside Montclair with Wayne Robbins

  2. I do love having the advantage of living behind Tierney’s. I can just look out my window, see if there’s a line to get in, and time my visit based on that.

  3. Trust me, in the past there have been lines to get in there in the past on St. Pat’s. Usually in the evenings. Last year was pretty tame for a St. Patrick’s Day. Being that it’s a Sunday, I’d expect the same. More people doing day-drinking as they’ve got work on Monday, I suspect.

  4. Don’t forget the Grasshopper in Cedar Grove. And there are some Irish places in West Orange, too.

  5. THis is very disappointing. I was expecting an announcement of a Baristanet party, and instead I get a list of places where I could take my friends, if only I had some. Oh woe!

  6. I’m usually a great fan of the Saint Patrick’s night craic at Tierney’s upper room which won’t be the same foot stomping experience this year without a live Irish band. I’m informed there will be live music downstairs between 4 and 7, so I’ll be stopping in for a pint a wee earlier than I originally planned.

  7. There is not even a place to stand in the main bar at Tierney’s, so unless they get live music upstairs next year, my tradition of going there on St.Patrick’s day has clearly endeth. I despise drinking in tents, I had my fill of that in college, so Eagan’s is definitely out of the question. Is not drinking Guinness out of a plastic cup enough of a sacrilege? I would say that the best bets for St. Patrick’s day are either The Cloverleaf, or The Shannon Rose, depending on what is closer to you.

  8. Started Paddy’s Day celebrations at Tierney’s and woke up on somebody’s roof next day. True story.
