jennifer langeThe Montclair Film Festival (MFF) in partnership with The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) has named Jennifer Lange of Bloomfield the winner of their 2014 Official Poster Contest.

Jen Lange, who also happens to provide craft content for Barista Kids, and her husband have been active members of the community for the past 12 years.

This was the first time Jen submitted a design in the MFF poster competition, in its third year,  after a friend suggested she take a go at it.

Jen, who studied digital imaging in college and ran her own graphic design business, tells Baristanet why she did just that.

“I grew up going to film festivals. This contest allowed me to pursue my old love, and I had such a great time creating for the contest,” she said.

Jen said her primary goal when designing the poster was to “reflect in print the joy and good feeling living here gives me.” She added, “I wanted the poster to look like Montclair, and to evoke positive emotion.”

She accomplished that by including distinct town landmarks in her design,  such as the Edgemont Park statue, Montclair Art Museum, the Clairidge Theater, to name a few. See for yourself in an exclusive unveiling:

MFF founder Bob Feinberg says, “We’re thrilled with the poster for MFF’14 — the result of a poster competition that saw saw 60 artists submit more than 100 designs. Jen Lange’s image captures the spirit of Montclair and the Film Festival with color, energy and excitement .” He adds, You’re going to be seeing a lot of this image in the weeks leading up to the Film Festival!”

MFF Committee Chairpersons Kelly Coogan Swanson and Lisa Ingersoll add, “We’ve found that the MFF supporters really take pride in the festival each year and that’s why we solicited them for this competition. We were overwhelmed by the quality of the submissions and think Jennifer’s vision perfectly sums up the sense of community the festival generates.”

Jen’s design will be seen on buses, lampposts, t-shirts, the web, catalogs and, of course, the big screen, as the centerpiece of a dynamic week of 80+ films and events that will comprise the third annual celebration of the art of filmmaking in Montclair. As an added prize, Jen gets tickets to various MFF events.

Feinberg will officially unveil the poster and congratulate Jen publicly at the MFF Oscars’ Eve Party this Saturday, March 1. You can purchase tickets to the party online here.

Way to go Jen! We’re so proud of you!

  1. The image depicted in the lower right of Jennifer Lange’s MFF poster is that of the Bellevue Theatre, not the Clairidge, as erroneously cited in the story.
