It’s official. CBS Television Network today announced that Montclair resident Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of “The Colbert Report,” will succeed David Letterman as the host of “The Late Show.”

After 21 years, Letterman announced his plans to retire last week.

Congratulations!!! I’m not a fan, but he always seemed like a great guy, so I wish him well!!

I assume he’s be out of character, right? Either way, this is a great achievement. Who will be the band leader? Jeff Tweedy? Michael Penn? John Legend? That’s the next big question.

And where will it shoot? New York? LA?

NY? LA? Montclair? Hell, I’d offer up a room in the Palatial Estate, but he might ruin its “old world” charm.

Did Montclair real estate values just go up? Having a Late Night host in town is better than a mention on Mad Men.

Steve Earle has been chosen as band leader. The show will air from Newark. Mr. Colbert is working on his character, he’s trying for a bit more aridity than the previous host brought to the table.

This is great news for Colbert, and what is good for Colbert is good for Montclair.

I would guess he’ll stay in character.

Where’s the studio in Newark? The old Mosque Symphony Hall?

    The old Paramount movie theatre?

PAZ, I was just goofing. Can you imagine, Steve Earle as the band leader? That would really blow some minds. That house in WO would be appropriate for someone like ‘Real Housewives of Joisey’. Newark, probably not, the show will most likely stay in NYC.
