Students and faculty of School of Rock Montclair will be the featured performers at “Tis The Season to Rock For A Reason”, a benefit concert to raise money for the Kevin Parker Memorial Scholarship Fund on December 20 at the Old Mogul Theatre in Montclair.
Funds raised at the day long event will provide scholarships for talented and deserving children who wish to learn music at School of Rock Montclair.
“Kevin Parker was a master bass player and a beloved member of our faculty who joined School of Rock Montclair in 2012 and passed away suddenly in early 2015,” says Matt Sandoski, owner of School of Rock Montclair. “While he’s still missed tremendously by his students and fellow teachers, we felt that naming a scholarship fund in his honor would be a fitting tribute to a great man, husband, father, and friend – and an awesome musician.”
Entertainment at the event will include the following performances:
- 3 – 3:30 pm: Junior HouseBand – featuring students ages 7 through 12, who perform throughout the year at local events
• 3:45 – 4:15 pm: Summer Best of Season – featuring student performances of songs from the themed 2015 SoR summer student tribute shows “Green Day vs. Blink 182”, “The Best of Sub Pop Records”, and “Jam On It”
• 4:30 – 5:15 pm: HouseBand – featuring students ages 12 through 17, who perform throughout the year at tri-state area events and tour around the East Coast during the summer
• 5:30 – 6 pm: Fall Mid-Season Preview – featuring student performances of songs from the upcoming themed 2015 SoR fall student tribute shows “Soundgarden”, “Godmothers of Rock and Roll – The Crystals, The Ronettes, and more”, “Led Zeppelin”, “Prince”, “Americana – Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams, Alabama Shakes, and more”, and “Keys To Rock – Little Richard, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Carole King, and more”
• 6:15 – 6:45 pm: Spring Staff Preview – featuring songs that will be part of SoR’s upcoming themed 2016 spring student tribute shows and will be performed by the school’s faculty
• 7:00 – 7:45 pm: Kevin Parker’s former gospel band Keeping God’s Trust
• 8:00 – 8:45 pm: Blastaways, featuring hits by The Pretenders, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, The Ramones, Joan Jett, and more performed by Montclair musicians Cecile Williams, Ben St. Jacques, Vik K., and SoR Creative Director Kevin March.
Along with the music, there will be a raffle for a variety of great prizes!
“Whether folks wish to buy a bunch of raffle tickets for our cool prizes or make donations to Kevin’s Fund, we’re hoping that everyone in attendance will show some love,” says Sandoski. “The financial support will not only be a wonderful tribute to Kevin, it will also provide opportunities for deserving kids to be a part of School of Rock and experience our unique, fun, and rewarding performance-based music education program.”
