Incident: Hindering Apprehension
Description: Sergeant Schwartz and Officer Oliva stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle violation. Upon investigation, it was determined that the driver, Mr. Jeffrey Agee, 33 of East Orange, had active warrants for his arrest and was hindering his own apprehension by providing false identification to the Officers. This matter has been referred to the Glen Ridge Municipal Court.

Incident: Possession of CDS
Description: Officer Holley and Officer Oliva responded to Mitchell Avenue to investigate a suspicious vehicle. While on scene, the driver of the vehicle was determined to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Mr. David Naiken, 21 of Bloomfield, was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters and processed. This matter has been referred to the Glen Ridge Municipal Court.

Incident: Trespassing
Description: Officer Grogan responded to the Forest Avenue on a report of a Criminal Mischief and Trespassing which occurred on 12/31/2016 between 12PM and 2PM. The resident reported observing that the fence to her property was damaged by an unknown party who may have tried to climb over the fence. This matter is currently under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Rivera at 973-748-5400 x 119.

Description: Officer Anthony Re responded to Argyle Street where he met with the victim. The victim reported that an unknown person had opened numerous credit cards in his name without authorization. Incident: Entered Vehicle
Description: Officer Uliano responded to the 100 block of Ridgewood Avenue on a report of a vehicle which was entered on 12/29/2016. Upon arrival, he met with the victim who advised that an unknown person had entered the vehicle which was parked between 10AM and 6PM and removed loose change. This matter is currently under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Rivera at 973-748-5400 x 119.

Description: Officer Grogan met with the victim who reported that on 12/29/2016 at 6:15PM, she was waiting at the bus stop at Bloomfield Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue. The victim reported that she placed a Victoria Secret bag on the ground which contained personal items. She reported that the bag was stolen while she was waiting at this location. Incident: Harassment
Description: Officer Uliano met with a resident of Douglas Road. The victim reported that on 12/17/2016 a greeting card was received in the mail from an unknown party. Upon opening the card, there was offensive content inside. This matter is currently under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Rivera at 973-748-5400 x 119.

Incident: Theft
Description: Officer Holley responded to the 100 block of Hillside Avenue where she met with the caller. The caller advised that a relative had left several items, including a bicycle, on the front porch for her at 9AM. Upon arriving home at 6PM that evening the items were missing, it was later confirmed that the items were placed on the front porch and removed by an unknown party. Upon checking her account balance she observed that several checks were cashed by an unauthorized user. Incident: Burglary
Description: Officer Salerno responded to Essex Avenue on a report of a Burglary which occurred during the day. The victim advised that they left the residence at approximately 8:30am and returned at 4:25 pm to find that unknown person had forced entry to the residence and removed belongings. Description: Officer Grogan responded to Spencer Road where he met with the victim. Incident: Suspicious Condition
Description: Officer Wilk responded to Sunset Avenue on a report of a suspicious condition. The victim advised that an unknown male contacted her by telephone claiming to represent PSEG and was inquiring about a refund check. Shortly thereafter she received a knock at the door from a female who claimed to work for NJ Reimbursement Company, she was also inquiring about a refund check. The party left after being requested to leave. This matter is currently under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Sgt. Daniel Manley at 973-748-5400 x 115.

Date/Time: 11-23-2016 at 3:27 am
Incident: Driving while intoxicated & Possession of CDS.
Description: Officer Rivera and Officer Holley responded to Hillside Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue for a single car motor vehicle accident where the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall. Upon speaking with the driver, Mr. Paul Torres, 38 of Bensalem, PA, it was determined that he was intoxicated and in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. During the investigation, it was also determined that the passenger, Mrs. Angela Perez, 26, of Harrison NJ had active warrant and was in possession of CDS. Both parties were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. This case has been turned over to the Essex County Superior Court.

Glen Ridge Police Sergeant Suing Department for Allegations of Harassment and Hostile Workplace

Glen Ridge Police Department

Sgt. Merritt Carr of the Glen Ridge Police Department is suing the GPD, as well as the borough administration, alleging “a continuing, systematic and outrageous pattern of abuse taken” against him over a period of at least two years.  The 45 page lawsuit was filed on October 24 in the Essex County Superior Court.

Police Chief Sheila Byron-Lagattuta, Capt. Sean Quinn, and Lt. Timothy Faranda are named as defendants in the suit, as are Borough Administrator Michael Rohal and Councilman Paul Lisovicz, the borough police commissioner.

There are five claims included in the complaint: Violation of Family Act Leave, Violation of CEPA (Conscientious Employee Protection Act), Disability Discrimination under NJLAD, Aiding and Abetting, Violation of the NJ Civil Rights Act. Continue Reading

Description: Officer Salerno met with a resident who reported that on 11/17/2016 between 6AM and 7PM his bicycle was stolen from the Glen Ridge Train Station. The resident reported that the bicycle was secured to the bicycle racks with a lock. The bicycle is described as a silver and green Gary Fisher Mountain Bike. This matter is currently under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Sgt. Daniel Manley at 973-748-5400 x 115.
