County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. spoke briefly about his memories of that dark day three years ago. Singer Arlette sang My America, One September Morning, which she wrote as a tribute to those who perished. A wreath was placed at the memorial, and a string quartet continued to play after the formal ceremony while visitors walked along the memorial wall and remembered the lost in their own way.Wall11
Glen Ridge resident Lori Loebelsohn, who was at the ceremony with her family, said that she appreciated the low-key nature of the service, “It allowed us to react in our own way.” The Eagle Rock September 11th Memorial was dedicated on October 20, 2002, and is located on a spot in the Eagle Rock Reservation overlooking the Manhattan skyline, where thousands of people gathered to watch in disbelief as the events unfolded 3 years ago. The ceremony “was uplifting’ Loebelsohn said, and and she added that the location was a natural, “where it is so poetic.”
