Twelve states have legalized the practice, beginning with California in 1996, while two others have reduced criminal penalties. The federal government still considers marijuana use a crime even in those states, but [Assemblyman Reed]Gusciora (D-Mercer) said most federal prosecutions involve major pushers.

  1. This should be a medical decision, not a political one.
Legalize it, commercialize it, regulate it, and let them even tax it if you want, but let people who are suffering have access to it.
It just blows my mind that people who often can’t grasp the concept of spending less than we take in (i.e., legislators, whether state or national) feel that they are in a better position than doctors to decide whether people should have access to what might be a legitimate palliative substance.

  2. I agree. Treat it and regulate it as a controlled substance, just like they do with oxycontin, vicadin, valium, etc. Detractors will say it has side effects. Well, what drug does not? Even aspirin has side effects. Let the doctors decide, not the polictians.

  3. Not only tax it but mandate that it must be domestically grown and let’s give our farmers a chance at a new industry.

  4. if we legalize reefer then we have to let white castle expand…”pass me another piels, bert”

  5. if we legalize reefer then we have to let white castle expand…”pass me another piels, bert”

  6. if we legalize reefer then we have to let white castle expand…”pass me another piels, bert”

  7. There you go – marijuana legalization will stimulate the economy! Even if it doesn’t it will make you forget about $4/gal gas.

  8. government should stay out of peoples’ lives, especially sick people who want to use a plant. i do not want my tax dollars spent on continuing to fight a plant which people are going to use regardless of its legal status, especially when it has been proven to help sick people.
