MHSDancers.jpgMy 3-year-olds go to Sharon Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts for dance class on Thursdays. They love their teacher Miss Camille who gives them lollipops. I, along with many suburban mommies, go to Angel Williams’ hip hop class at New York Sports Club. Dancing makes the girls–and baby boy–in my family feel cool. Because really, we’re not that cool. But we can pretend we are when we dance to Beyonce videos in our living room.

Maybe one day my children will dance with the Montclair High School Dance Company. That would make their mommy so happy–no pressure. Really, I try to encourage them to do what they enjoy. So far, they enjoy dancing. Kids, right? YOU ENJOY DANCING?!!

Seriously, the teens above do love it. They are performing on a nearly adult level–and they have practiced their skills for many years. From left to right are local teens Rebecca Yellin, Olivia Sage-El and James. A. Wiggins III at their recent performance at Montclair High School.

What do you imagine your kids might be interested in as they get older? For all I know, mine will forgo dance to play World of Warcraft and sell homemade soap. Who knows? Meanwhile, their mommy dreams of dance.
