Vacation Time: I Need to Pack

babypacking.jpgI am packing today.

I’m psyched that my family of five is going on vacation.

I’m also terrified. Is a vacation really a vacation with three children ages 3 and under?

We are going to find out.

We are going on a cheesy Norwegian family cruise. I love cheese, and I can’t wait. There were several benefits to making this choice:

1. Norwegian was running a sweet special. So sweet that we could bring my mother and awesome au pair Christin.

2. The cruise pamphlets says they offer 10 hours of “camp” for my 3-year-olds each day.

3. All the food is included.

4. Maybe, if we’re really lucky, we’ll get one of those cruise Rotaviruses and bond while barfing.

Seriously, I’m psyched. Best of all, we don’t have to take the 1.5-year-old on a flight. At his age, no one likes sitting next to him. That’s probably because he slobbers and arches his back a lot.

We just board the cruise right in New York City tomorrow and head for the Bahamas. We close our eyes, cross our fingers and wiggle our noses for no barfing.

All next week, I’ll send news from the ship, and Upcoming Events Editor Georgette Gilmore will be manning the Barista Kids ethers from her post in Montclair. We’ll also run a few vacation stories next week, from a local mom who gives tips on staycations to Georgette’s recent run-in with a certain mouse in Florida.

Okay, enough procrastinating. Now I really have to pack.

Pack some bottles of water. They charge and arm and a leg for that. Also don’t forget some motion sickness pills just in case and other otc stuff for the kids. Your aupair is great. I see her in class with Soren.

I don’t understand people who do things and are not confident to simply say they like ’em.
Instead they cry “cheese” as if that absolves them from liking something.
But c’mon Kristen, you booked a cruise for your family- not a cheap think- it’s okay to look forward to it.
Or are you gonna be one of those folks who are with the crowd, but think and act like you’re ABOVE the crowd?
Either way, you’re gonna be on a cruise. With a LOT of folks.
Hopefully you’re allow yourself to have fun without the condescension.
Or perhaps you should just go to St. Barts.
(Although considering Simon from Real Housewives NY, the cheese factor is there too.)

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
