Montclair Man Charged in Bizarre Side-of-Highway Attack

Clifton police arrested a Montclair man yesterday after he alleged attacked a police sergeant with a gutter spike. The man, Gian Carty, 37, was walking on the side of the highway at the intersection of Route 3 and Route 21 when the sergeant came up to find out what he was doing there. According to NorthJersey.com, the officer was protected by his bulletproof vest. Carty, still in jail, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon.
