About a month ago, Bobbi Brown picked me to do a photo shoot for her upcoming teen book at her studio on Lackawanna Avenue. She invited many girls, ages 15 to 25. One of them was Christina Sliwak, a senior at Glen Ridge High School who created Dresses With Dignity, a charity that collects gently used formal dresses to donate to people who need them. We were all encouraged to bring a dress. Then makeup artists, hair stylists, a camera crew, and fashion stylists from J.Crew came to make us feel beautiful and comfortable.
When I arrived at 9 a.m. for the shoot, I received a makeup case chock full of free goodies from Bobbi and Madewell, a J.Crew company. They had a teen lounge set up for the models with couches, a manicurist, and a station to make our own lip gloss.
Four makeup artists created a special look for each girl. My makeup artist, Tia, showed me how to do it myself. The photographer Ondrea encouraged me to be myself and to be confident in front of the camera.
But the biggest force of confidence in the room was Bobbi Brown herself…

She touched up my makeup and talked to me about what I was wearing. Bobbi commented on each girl as we had our pictures taken.
The best part about the shoot: We didn’t look vastly different with makeup on. We just looked prettier. That is the biggest lesson I learned at the photo shoot. For example, just because I have a small gap in my teeth doesn’t mean I shouldn’t wear lip gloss, but it does mean I should play up my eyes more. The book is planned to come out sometime in 2010, and I cant wait to read it!

  1. All I could think of while watching the video is that this is a beautiful, young girl with gorgeous skin…what is there to conceal?

  2. ilove, most any famous person is an “inspiration” to young women (and men).
I bet a “seminar” with one of the jonas bros would have the same resulting smiles and inspiration.
As would Lady Gaga or Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale or Zac Efron.
