Local Teens Speak Out About Slut List

Some commenters over on our main page didn’t think The Slut List was real news last week. Not that the Today Show is hard-hitting journalism, but they even ran the story on our lovely neighbors over in Millburn. The View covered it, and so did CNN and FoxNews.
Since then, through the grapevine, I’ve heard that it’s cool to be on Millburn’s freshman class slut list. Slut list = popular and pretty. They have no idea they’re teaching themselves lessons about their future workplaces. Backstabbing, backhanded compliments and inappropriate sexual innuendo can run rampant, even today.
When I saw this Millburn girl–a recent grad–on FoxNews, see below, I asked two recent Montclair grads for their opinions. Here’s what two cool, well-adjusted young women had to say. They’re both in good colleges right now.
“I hadn’t heard of it, but when I was in high school, there was a list of nasty rumors about a whole lot of people that was circulating for awhile. It was the topic of conversation for a long time. It’s safe to say I’m not surprised.”
“It absolutely could happen at any North Jersey high school. That sounds like something catty, self-conscious mean girls do in their free time. I thought it was hilarious.”
Next year, I’m hoping we don’t read about Millburn’s slut list. But I bet we will.

Is the word “slut” really too vulgar to say, Fox News?

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
