Montclair High Photographers Show Work in NYC

-1.jpgTiana Mincey and Jordana Churchman, both students at Montclair High School, are photographers–with work on display in New York City.
Their shots were chosen for the program “Expanding the Walls” at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Their exhibit is called “We Come with the Beautiful Things” and is a composition of 12 black and white photographs. They were inspired by James Vanderzee, an African-American photographer famous for experimentation and his subjects: the black middle class in the 1920s and 30s.

I recently spoke to Tiana who started playing around with her friend’s camera about 4 years ago. She loved it. Now she’s taking photography more seriously–to even help her get into college. “It has become more of an occupation.”
The exhibit photos are of nude models, displaying the human body in the intricate and beautiful ways. I also talked to Matthew Baynes, who graduated from Montclair High School in 2008. He was the model for many the pictures, see one at left. “I asked Tiana to do some promotional shots for my website, They came out amazing. Anyone who visits my website says that the shots took talent.”
Tiana and Jordana’s photos are on exhibit from July 16 through October 25.
