West Caldwell Women Charged With Setting Home On Fire

West Caldwell Police have arrested Elizabeth Zartin, 47, on charges arising from a fire at her family’s Mountain Avenue home in West Caldwell. The Sunday evening fire caused substantial damage to the 2-story structure. Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Arson Task Force have determined that the fire was intentionally set. No residents of the home were injured as a result of the fire, but one responding firefighter was slightly injured.
Zartin, who was arrested on Monday, has been charged with second-degree aggravated arson, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree aggravated assault upon responding emergency personnel. She is being held in the Essex County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

  1. I don’t get it. Who would set their own home on fire (assuming it was hers)? With a child inside yet? Sometimes I don’t understand this thing called the “human race.”
