Comic book junkies, there are multiple treats for you this weekend in the way of Free Comic Book Day events, several of them within grasp in Baristaville.
Free Comic Book Day is a tribute to the genre, which has grown exponentially since the adventure days of Superman, the Man of Steel (introduced in 1938), to include thought-provoking slices of life, science fiction and gripping drama. The day usually falls on the first Saturday of May, when participating stores across the US will give away comic books free. Do check with your local stores about participation guidelines and rules.
In Bloomfield, stop by the Comic Book Market, where NYC-based Jacob Chabot, X-Babies artiest, and creator, writer and illustrator of The Mighty Skullboy Army (a comic that was nominated for an Eisner in 2008) will be on hand to chat about his work and Marvel’s X-Babies.
Another special guest will be Gregg Schigiel, also based in NYC, who has done cartoons and illustrations for Marvel, Nickelodeon Magazine, Disney Adventures Magazine, and works as an illustrator for Nickelodeon. Responsible for those SpongeBob SquarePants illustrations on consumer products and packaging, Schigiel also wrote the X-Babies mini series.
And over in West Orange, there’s a Comic Book Day at the Library which has been an annual event since 2002. Take your pick of a free Gold Sponsor comic book donated by Time Warp Comics of Cedar Grove at the children’s department, while supplies last.

Or you can head to Little Falls and visit New Moon Comics () on Main Street right near rt. 23. Rob and Vicki are incredibly nice people, and Free Comic Book Day has always been really well organized there to boot. It’s well worth the drive.

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
