Montclair police report a knife assault on Mission Street early Tuesday morning.

Police spoke to the victim, a Montclair male, who stated that he had been in a fight with another individual in the residence. The victim’s clothes were ripped and his chest appeared to have been scratched. Shortly thereafter, police located the suspect, Edin Picado, 22 of Montclair, in a nearby room. The victim alleged that Picado had assaulted him with a knife and showed police a broken, bloodied knife handle that he said was used in the assault. It is not clear at this time what events led to the assault. Picado was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.Bail was set at $25,000.

Montclair police also report that a resident of Grandview Place in Montclair, returning from vacation, reported to them last night that $16,000 of jewelry was missing. The items included a diamond engagement ring valued at $10,000, a three-diamond ring valued at $5,000 and a pair of diamond earrings valued at $1,000.
