A Trip Back in Time, Leaving From Whippany

Take a ride on this beauty, the 1927 Jersey Coast Club Car, tomorrow or next Sunday, leaving from the Whippany Rail Museum. Purchased in 1994 as a “heavily vandalized hulk,” the club car has finally been restored to its Roaring Twenties grandeur and takes its maiden run tomorrow.

The car has the look and feel of a private club. Individual leather chairs, completely restored mahogany interior, stained glass and old time ceiling fans. Built for the Central RR of NJ in 1927, the outside is painted in the blue and cream colors of famous New York-Atlantic City “Blue Comet” express.

The Whippany Railway Museum is located at 1 Railroad Plaza at the intersection of Route 10 West and Whippany Road. Walkup customers can buy tickets at the ticket window starting at noon tomorrow. Online tickets are available for the Sept. 19 rides. Trains leave on the hour from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and operate rain or shine. 973-887-8177
