If you like some of novelty tunes that Jonathan Schwartz plays on his weekend radio shows, things like John Pizzarelli’s “I Like Jersey Best,” you will probably appreciate a local duo that plays every other Sunday at Just Jakes in Montclair. Ted Brancato and Dave Rimelis play a variety of standards and not-so-standards, some of which Brancato had a hand in writing, like “Don’t You Call Me Shorty Anymore,” which Brancato wrote with the late Arthur Thieberger.
Brancato (keyboards) and Remelis (violin, banjo, guitar, vocals) cover everything from jazz to Celtic, and involve the audience by handing out percussion instruments and taking requests. Brunch is served during their act, from 11:30 a.m. till 2:30 p.m., but there’s no cover charge.
Brancato and Rimelis will be playing this Sunday, Oct. 10, as well as Oct. 24, November 7, Novemer, 21, December 5 and December 19. Watch them playing “Don’t You Call Me Shorty Anymore” in the jump.
