This just in from Capt. James Miller at the Millburn Police:
This past week a vehicle on Ridgewood Road and another on Sagamore Road were burglarized. The Millburn Police requests that residents lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight. Residents are asked to immediately report suspicious activity.
On 10/ 31/2010 at approximately 4:51 PM the Millburn Police were dispatched to the loss prevention office of Saks Fifth Avenue on a report that suspects were under observation for possible shoplifting. Investigation resulted in the arrest of a 21 man from Brooklyn, N.Y. for allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at $2,333.00. It is further alleged that struck struck the investigating officer in the face with one of the bags he was carrying and then fled before being apprehended by another Millburn officer in a parking lot of the mall. The suspect was charged with N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1A(1) Robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-11B(2) Shoplifting, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(5)(A) Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2A(3)(A) Resisting arrest. Also arrested was a 39 yr old man from Brooklyn, N.Y. for allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at $709.00. He was charged with N.J.S.A. 2C:20-11B(2) Shoplifting.
On 10/30/2010 at approximately 7:06 PM a Millburn officer, assigned to a plain clothes detail reported smelling burnt marijuana as he patrolled Taylor Park. On-scene investigation resulted in the arrest of two township 14-year-olds for allegedly possessing marijuana in the park. The juveniles were charged with possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana and turned over to their parents.
On 10/30/2010 at approximately 8:23 AM a Browning Road resident reported that sometime between midnight and 8:00 AM person(s) unknown hung toilet paper on the front shrubs of the residence.
On 10/28/2010 at approximately 12:14 PM an employee of Diesel, located at The Mall at Short Hills reported that between noon and the time of the report 22 pairs of jeans with a combined value of $5,660.00 were stolen from the front of the store.
On 10/27/2010 at approximately 1:58 PM the Millburn Police responded to Hollister, located in The Mall at Short Hills on a report that Hollister loss prevention staff was detaining two juvenile shoplifters. A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old juvenile, both from Newark, were arrested for allegedly removing the sensor tags from merchandise, placing the items in a bag and exiting the store. Both juveniles were charged with shoplifting and criminal mischief. The 17-year-old is alleged to have taken merchandise totaling $59.00 and the 16-year-old is alleged to have taken merchandise totaling $99.00.
On 10/25/2010 at approximately 11:37 AM a Ridgewood Road resident (800 block) reported that between 11:00 AM and 10:00 PM on 10/24/2010 her unlocked vehicle was entered and a GPS unit and cell phone charger were stolen.
On 10/25/2010 at approximately 11:05 AM a Sagamore Road resident responded to police headquarters to report that between 6:00 PM on 10/17/2010 and 8:00 AM on 10/18/2010 her unlocked vehicle was entered and a cell phone and GPS unit were stolen.
