After the Montclair Patch interviewed Shelly Lombard, the School Board President, Edgemont Elementary School parents are mad. In the interview, Ms. Lombard talks about closing Edgemont school and many of the parents feel that she does it in a disrespectful tone. They are organizing a protest at Van Vleck House & Gardens today, where Central Office and all 11 Montclair School principals will be meeting at 4 pm for a business meeting discuss cost-cutting measures and closing the budget gap. Gerthy Agard, PTA member, sent out an email blast to Edgemont parents:
We need your help today!
Central Office staff and principals from the district’s 11 schools, will gather at Van Vleck on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 4:00 pm for a business meeting discuss cost-cutting measures and closing the budget gap.
The Edgemont PTA is asking you to meet across the street of Van Vleck Gardens at 20 Van Vleck Street between Valley and North Mountain at 3:30 pm, 12/16 to let the district and the principals know :
We don’t want our school closed.
Every school must share the burden of the budget gap.
We have the right to participate in the school choice system.
This will be a peaceful demonstration. We will have signs with our messages. Feel free to bring your own. All are welcome, even kids. Warm beverages and snacks will be available.
