Just when you started getting used to warmer weather and actually seeing your lawn, we wake up to more snow. You may think there is nothing left to do with snow, but you’d be wrong. I know we’ve already discussed making snow ice cream and snow lanterns, sledding, ice skating, spray painting snowmen, and even creating healthy edible snowmen snacks, but we’ve got another one for you.
This time we are calling for a Snowman/Creature Competition. But not just any snowman competition. This is an all out, all ages (up to 18, anyway), get your snow groove on, snow creature competition.
Inspired by the first – and hopefully annual – High Line Snowman Competition that took place last month in Chelsea after a fresh 19 inches of snow fell on the city, we here at Barista Kids felt it only proper to have one of our own. Baristaville is filled with all sorts of creative types, just Ask Holly, and we won’t be outdone! But it’s not going to be easy. The snow sculptors that came out to the High Line weren’t messing around. They did things with snow I never thought possible. Check out the Snow Rats that took second place above. From a snow octopus to a towering pure white Empire State Building complete with spire, these snow enthusiasts threw down hard. Almost as hard as the snow storm. We also aren’t being hit with over a foot of snow this time, so your snowmen and creatures will be small, but make sure they are unique.
Let these images from last month’s competition provide the inspiration and motivation for your great work of snow. The High Line’s competition gave just an hour and a half for the builders to create a masterpiece, but we say take your time. You have until tomorrow night.
Here are the details:
- When you’re sure you’ve created the most breathtaking, life-like water buffalo or life-size replica of your brother, take a picture and send it to us here with Snowman Contestin the subject line. All entries must be received by Tuesday, February 22 11:59 pm.
- The Baristas will vote on the best snow creation.
- The lucky winner will receive bragging rights as the best darn snow sculptor this side of the Hudson River and a $40 gift certificate to Tinga Taqueria for a family night out. A hot, spicy (or not) Mexican meal is the perfect prize after a day spent in the cold snow. The winner can dine at any one of the restaurant’s three locations, Montclair, Millburn, or Westfield.
- We’ll announce our winner and post the photograph of his or her snow creation on Wednesday, February 23. Good luck!
Heck, even if you don’t win you can still take your family to warm up at Tinga with their family-friendly atmosphere and menu. Tinga even offers a special “Jackson” menu which feeds a family of four for $20.
Thanks to Tinga’s owner who very generously donated the gift card!
