Spring Luncheon on “Sports Concussions: Safe Return to Play”

The Partners for Health Foundation (previously called the Mountainside Health Foundation) will host a Spring Luncheon to educate the community about Sports Concussions: Safe Return to Play. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 30, from 11:30 am – 2 pm at the Montclair Golf Club. Tickets begin at $50, and complimentary tickets are being made available to parents, coaches and athletic directors from qualifying organizations.

Over the past several years, there has been an increased awareness and concern about concussions among student athletes. When athletes return to play before they are fully recovered from a concussion, there is a greater risk of re-injury, prolonged recovery, or even death.

To address this critical issue, Partners for Health and the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey are promoting safe return to play in youth sports, and developing concussion education programs.

In this third year of the campaign, last year they hosted a Golf Tournament, information on sports concussions will be disseminated to parents, coaches and children of all ages who play sports outside of the school system.  The focus will be on local recreation departments, club sports organizations, and any organized youth sports leagues.

An advisory committee of interested parents will be formed to act as liaisons and advocates within all of the Foundation’s service area communities.  Written and videotaped materials will be designed specifically to support and enhance this community outreach.
