Eat a Burger Tomorrow and Help Local Teens Rebuild New Orleans

This June, just days after high schools close for the summer, St. John’s Episcopal Church of Montclair will send 13 local teens packing to New Orleans on a mission of social outreach. The teens, mostly from Montclair and Glen Ridge high schools will be working with hammers, nails, sheetrock and paint to transform an uninhabitable structure into someone’s home.

Elevation Burger in Montclair is supporting this outreach sponsoring a fundraiser tomorrow, Monday, April 18.  Elevation Burger will donate 10% of dinner sales revenue between 5 – 9 pm. The organic burger joint gives back to the community frequently.

The teen group, leaving June 25, will earn a full week of community service credit. Parents are paying airfares, St. John’s parish will purchase building materials, and the Episcopal Diocese will provide group accommodations.  The group will be fundraising for remaining expenses.

  1. Looking forward to a great night at EB. The food is fresh and I love how they are always helping the community. I will see you there!

  2. (Don’t get me wrong – I am all in favor of the kids going down to help rebuild, but as Conan the Grammarian, I must comment adversely on the structure of your headline.)

  3. Conan,
Wow, that was bad. I’d like to say that my brain is on spring break like my kids, but it’s a bad mistake. I’m going to correct it now.

  4. It happens to everyone, Georgette. Just ask your local Air Traffic Controller (Night Shift). Thanks for emending it and thanks to all the teens who are volunteering to help out down there, and to the folks who are sponsoring them.

  5. The only hurricane I would want to “rebuild”:
    1 oz vodka
    1/4 oz grenadine syrup
    1 oz gin
    1 oz light rum
    1/2 oz rum
    1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
    1 oz triple sec
    grapefruit juice
    pineapple juice
