Baristaville parents who are looking for a weekend road trip and some family-rockin’ entertainment can head down the Garden State Parkway on Saturday, April 16, to Princeton, where Dan Zanes and Friends will be hitting the stage of the McCarter Theater for an 11am show. The show is part of a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Rocket Ship Beach, Zanes’ debut disc of all-ages music.
Formerly a member of grown-up rock band Del Fuegos, Zanes was inspired by the birth of his daughter to turn his attentions to making music for kids (and the older kids who happened to be their parents). The resulting debut album Rocket Ship Beach (and the 7 Zanes albums that have followed in the last decade) combines pop, sea shanties, English music hall, folk, Mexican Son Jarocho, and the spirit of early rock-and-roll into a mix designed to get families to sing and dance together.
Looking to join the Dan Zanes dance party? Barista Kids is giving away one How to Grow A Family Band 5 CD pack! The set includes Family Dance, Rocket Ship Beach, House Party and Night Time!, four full-length CDs that come in cases that are also board books filled with photos of the band and tidbits about the songs; plus, we’re including A Few More Songs for Your Family Band to Sing and Play, a five-song bonus CD. There’s a mini-booklet in which Zanes offers his advice for creating your family band and some fun activities to get you going.
