School of Rock Band Invited to Perform at The Bamboozle Festival

Going Dark, a teen rock band comprised of music students from School of Rock Montclair, were finalists at this year’s Break Contest, a battle of New Jersey bands that was held at the legendary Stone Pony rock club in Asbury Park, NJ.
Going Dark’s energetic performances earned them an invitation to be part of The Bamboozle Festival, which will be held on May 1 at Giants Stadium. Other recording artists that will be on stage at The Bamboozle Festival include such multi-platinum selling superstars as Motley Crue, Little Wayne, and 30 Seconds To Mars.
“Going Dark blew the judges away, and these judges have seen it all,” says John Ginty, music director of School of Rock Montclair, who helped Going Dark prepare for the competition. “They’re all involved with Live Nation, America’s largest concert production company, and they couldn’t believe that a band so professional, focused, and talented is also so young.”
Going Dark is comprised of Oliver Shaw (bass and lead vocals, 11 years old), L.J. Militello (guitar, 13 years old), and Alex Fogg (drums, 14 years old). They entered the Break Contest in January along with 500 other bands and survived several rounds of eliminations. They were the youngest band in the competition, which filled The Stone Pony with an audience of over 1,000 rock fans for the final round on April 10. Along with the opportunity to perform at Bamboozle, Going Dark were also awarded press coverage in The Aquarian music newspaper, weekend passes for the entire Bamboozle Festival, and a generous assortment of Bamboozle Festival merchandise.
“We’ve only been together for only 8 months, but we’ve done some really cool stuff,” says Oliver, who performed with Alex and L.J. in 2010 at The Gramercy Theater in Manhattan and on Fox 5’s “Good Day New York” as part of the School of Rock Montclair’s All-Star Band. “There’s absolutely nothing like the feeling of being on stage, turning up the amps to 11, and driving a crowd crazy.”
Going Dark’s debut CD is entitled “I Am” and features songs written by all three band members. It’s available on iTunes and was produced by Ginty, a Grammy award-winning organist who has toured and recorded with Santana, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, and The Allman Brothers.
