Weekend Highlights

Thank goodness the weekend is here and the sun is expected to show its face. Yes, there are still a few possible thunderstorms, but anything is better than the deluge of rain we’ve been having. So get out while you can Baristaville, because I’m afraid to tell you another rainy week is ahead.

Do Something Girly

Parteaz and It’s Sew Crafty in Maplewood are throwing a slumber party (until 10:30 pm)! Sew a pillow to take home, hang out on a pillow filled bed, play games, eat snacks and get your nails done. (Saturday, May 21)

Enjoy a Mommy & Me Tea Party at The Geyer Family YMCA in Montclair.  “Plant” flowerpot cakes, create fruit flowers, dip strawberries in chocolate, make some fresh lemonade and, of course, drink tea! (Saturday, May 21)

Celebrate May

Take the family to Mayfest, Maplewood’s annual fun, family celebration. (Sunday, May 22)

Head over to Nishuane Elementary School’s annual Mayfair for music, crafts, rides, food and more. (Saturday, May 21)

Millburn hosts the Mayapple Festival at South Mountain Reservation. Enjoy family hikes, music, activities and more. (Saturday, May 21)

 
 
 

The Little Maestros

See a Musical

Glenfield Middle School will perform Crazy For You, adapted from the Broadway musical featuring music from the Gershwin brothers. The talented kids will get you toe-tapping faster than you can say, “I Got Rhythm!” (Friday, May 20)

Bring the little one to The Little Maestros concert at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston. This band was named the best music class in NYC by Nickelodeon Parents’ Pick Awards. (Sunday, May 22)

Support Our Kids

Make sure to go shopping at the Toys For Books Tag Sale at Montclair Public Library, organized by Jacob Levy and his friends. Your kids can buy Bakugans, trading cards, Pokemon cards, cars, trains, silly bands and other toys. Half of the proceeds will help the library. (Saturday, May 21)

Get books at a great bargain and help out students at Lacordaire Academy in Montclair at the Used Book Sale. (Sunday, May 22)

Get Artsy

Learn all about Warhol at Montclair Art Museum’s Free Family Day. It’s free! (Sunday, May 22)

Create an abstract guitar at Express Yourself Studios in Maplewood. (Saturday, May 21)

  1. oops! Sorry about that. We have it listed correctly on our calendar, but I wrote it wrong in Highlights. It’s fixed now, thanks for letting me know.

  2. Millburn hosts the annual classic, antique and special interest car show, this Sunday from 10AM ’til 4PM on Millburn Avenue, by the Millburn theatre, with give-A-ways, music and over 100 perfect vehicles, most in museum quality. Free to the public. Pray for sun !
