Montclair’s Ethan Grossbach, 11, Sadie Grossbach, 7, and Lucy Hammond, 7, tested their chops at sounding a shofar, the ram’s horn traditionally blown to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The trio attend Sunday classes at the progressive Jewish Cultural School & Society (JCSS)–the only “secular synagogue” serving Essex, Union, Passaic and Bergen Counties–in West Orange.

The JCSS will host its annual Sukkot (Fall harvest) celebration on Sunday, October 16. Families of any faith (or none) are welcome to attend:

What: Join the Jewish Cultural School & Society (JCSS)–the only “secular synagogue” serving Essex, Union, Passaic and Bergen counties–when we celebrate the Jewish Fall harvest festival by building a sukkah, making crafts, participating in a special presentation and enjoying a pot-luck lunch. Families and friends of any faith (or none) are welcome!
Where: South Mountain Reservation, Tulip Springs North picnic grove (off Pleasant Valley Way/Cherry Lane), West Orange, NJ.
When: Sunday, October 16 from 10 am – 12:30 pm.
