Montclair’s Big Night: An Evening of Jazz & Poetry

To aid scholarships and help grow programs, the Montclair Academy of Dance and Laboratory of Music will host their second annual Evening of Jazz & Poetry, on Friday, November 18, from 7-9:30 p.m., at the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Ave.

An extraordinary lineup of musicians will include world-renowned pianist, Geri Allen, legendary bassist, Reggie Workman (pictured), saxophonist, Asaf Yuria, and jazz drummer, Cory Cox. Allen and Workman, who were both deeply inspired by former jazz great Alice Coltrane, will be dedicating this evening of jazz to her. Oliver has put together a phenomenal assortment of poems, which will be read by Ayana Workman. The night starts with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the library’s Terra at the Isabel Rose Café. Guests can choose to bid on the Art Lovers Silent Auction items, including a sculpture by Nora Chavoosian, a Giotto’s dinner for two with jazz drummer, Pheeroan akLaff, or a variety of tickets, including the National Chorale, Akram Khan Dance Company, and Julliard performances.

Tickets are $50. All proceeds will benefit the Montclair Academy of Dance and Laboratory of Music. To make a reservation, please contact MADLOM at 973-746-3522 or email
