What I’m Listening To With the Kids: Instrumental Dreamland by Putumayo Kids

Instrumental Dreamland, a collection of soothing tunes from Putumayo Kids just released today, but I was lucky to receive a copy a couple of weeks ago and it has become a family favorite.

Between 4 pm  – 6 pm, things get hectic in my home. I get the kids home, there’s homework to do and dinner to make all before 5:45 pm when we can finally sit down to eat and catch up. During that time, I feel a bit frazzled. I’ve been playing Instrumental Dreamland while I cook and even though Putumayo’s best-selling Dreamland series are designed to help lull children to sleep, I think they’re perfect to calm a crazed mom and her kids. We even listen to the CD during dinner. With classics like “Brahms’ Lullaby,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “What a Wonderful World,” played on relaxing instruments such as the harp, piano, acoustic guitar and kora, Instrumental Dreamland is great background music.

Putumayo Kids is the children’s and educational division of Putumayo World Music, which I’m also a fan of. If you’re looking for more upbeat music for your kids, the “Playground” series by Putumayo Kids is awesome. Our favorite is Folk Playground. CDs sell for $14.98 and can be purchased online or at many local stores.

We are big Putumayo fans. Animal playground, French Playground, African Playground are some of our favorites.

I have 90 Putumayo children songs on one play list. I just like to put it on shuffle. It makes everyone happy and it does not sound like crappy children’s music. I have adult without kids ask what I was playing because they liked it so much.

All my kids still listen to the original Putumayo Dreamland CD every night. Of course my 7 yo son had made up some potty words to some of the songs (oh boys!) but he still loves it and requests it every night before bed. LOL.

Will have to check this one out. Thanks for the review.
