For four years, Aunt Jean’s Toys and Treats has organized over 20 local organizations and merchants for an egg hunt in Crane Park, Montclair. It’s a chance for kids of all ages to come and have some fun in a hunt for treats in one of Montclair’s less-frequented parks. This year promises extra excitement with a 15’ tall Tyrannosaurus Rex, music and a fire truck for kids to explore.
“It’s so much fun bringing the community and businesses together for the past four years,” remarked Jeanette Lauture, owner of Aunt Jean’s . “The smiles on the kids’ faces as they see our famous bunny walking into the park and the cheers are priceless. It’s all about creating memories for the little ones and spending quality time with our families.”
The small, triangular Crane Park behind Lackawanna Plaza makes for a manageable hunting ground and it’s conveniently located right across the street from the Family Y on Glen Ridge Ave. The Bill and Hellen Geyer Family Center has participated every year, as well, opening its doors to families after the eggs have been collected to allow the festivities to continue. “The Spring Treasure Hunt really is a fun-filled family adventure,” said James Goodger, Branch Director of the Geyer Family YMCA.” This is a great morning out with surprises galore. The local businesses come together to spark the imaginations of the children in our community.”
The 20+ co-sponsors include restaurants, like Ah Pizz and Toast, kids’ activity centers like Studio Kids Arts and The Little Gym, local parenting website Barista Kids and new-comers like the online dads’ community TheFathersLounge.com, all of which see the opportunity to do something fun and a little different from their everyday activities. Each co-sponsor provides eggs with a special treat inside for the kids to enjoy, be it candy or a coupon.
Parents enjoy the hunt, too. “It’s a fun chance to talk with other parents, see the kids run around and get great pictures of the huge smiles on their faces when they find an egg, “ said Ewa Babinska, mother of two, who has been coming to the hunt since the first year when her daughter was one year-old.
