Meet and Greet the Candidates at the Library

The Montclair Public Library, The Adult School of Montclair, and the Fullerton Condominium Association are hosting an Election 2012 Open House/Meet and Greet at the Montclair Public Library (50 S. Fullerton, First Floor Auditorium) on Sunday, April 15, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  All of the candidates for May’s local election have been invited for what is billed as a “nonpartisan” event.

Participants will get a chance to mix and mingle with the candidates, and each candidate will have three minutes to introduce himself or herself.

  1. This is a good idea. It would be nice if the hosts could solicit questions from the citizens and maybe select the 10 – 20 most asked questions and present them to the guests and candidates so we actually can have a real dialogue about the issues?

  2. We considered that jerseygurl. Given the number of candidates and the logistics of the event, not to mention the fact that the CGI HS and LoWV debates will follow, we felt it would make more sense for this to be more of an event where residents could learn more about the candidates personally if they have not had the chance yet. The real hope is that more residents will get out and get involved so that there are more informed voters. Maybe the people who come out for this will want to learn more and will make plans for the more substantive debates to follow. – Jon

  3. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, I won’t be able to attend. But, the hosts were kind enough to allow me to distribute a written statement, for which I am very grateful.

Andrew, I also suggested to pre-record my speech (and obviously, any other candidate that won’t be able to make it), and have it broadcast on a screen via YouTube or Vimeo, but there doesn’t seems to be AV capability.
