On Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m., the Oratorio Society of New Jersey celebrates its 60th anniversary with a “heart-stopping romantic program” of Brahm’s waltzes, featuring international opera singer Carla López-Speziale, mezzosoprano.
The concert will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 North Fullerton Avenue in Montclair. Admission to the concert is $20 and tickets may be purchased at the door. (There is a second concert on Sunday, March 25, at 3 p.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church, 70 Maple Street, Summit.)
The program, under the music direction of Conductor Sándor Szabó, will feature five works by Johannes Brahms: Nänie, Schicksalslied, Alto Rhapsody, Ave Maria, and Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 52. Conductor Szabó — dubbed “the busiest musician in New Jersey” by Classical New Jersey Society Journal — also will perform Brahms solo works for piano and organ.
Founded in 1952, the Oratorio Society of New Jersey is an accomplished community chorus dedicated to performing classical choral masterpieces. For information about the Oratorio Society or upcoming events, visit oratoriosocietynj.org.
