Local author and artist Anie Knipping will be signing copies of her book “Eccentricity” at Watchung Booksellers on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. Knipping, whom Baristanet profiled last year, writes about what it is like to live with a rare condition known as synesthesia, which causes her to see sounds and associate specific colors with letters and numbers.
Knipping, who is on the autism spectrum, describes the book as “illustrated maps of social/sensory theories I’ve made to make sense of the world, the history of the people who live in my head, and more.” She continues, “I exist under unusual circumstances, and because of this I feel compelled, nay, obliged, to fill the void between the outside world and the various states of mental aberration that I hold. There are times I’ve felt I was made for this sole purpose, and for the longest time I feared dying with it unfinished. Now I fear it no longer. I do hope I’ve succeeded.”
Author Temple Grandin said about “Eccentricity”: “Anybody who is interested in creativity should experience this book. I think it will help people understand the sensory world of a person with autism.”
The book was published in February.
