Air Quality Alert Issued for Essex County

The N.J. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued an Air Quality Alert for Essex County this morning that will be into effect until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The warning also extends into parts of Bergen, Passaic, Union and Hudson counties.

The DEP reports that the air quality is “unhealthy for sensitive groups”, and older individuals, children and those with heart and lung diseases should limit their time spent outdoors today.

Thunderstorms expected later this afternoon will most likely lift the alert.
