Details From Our Scary Mommy Bash

I think I can speak for everyone who attended our Scary Mommy Book Bash at Trend Coffee & Tea House on Friday night, that the party was a success, and a hell of a lot of fun. We met Jill Smokler, aka Scary Mommy, and enjoyed a reading from her new book Confessions of a Scary Mommy that was full of expletives. Jill warned us before she started reading, but said she had an idea that this crowd would be okay with it. And we were, so much so, that we laughed our asses off. Check out Jill reading in the video below, but warning. There are a few “F” bombs:

Holly turned the already great back room of Trend into a stunning red and black party space. That lady is amazing with a glue gun and some tablecloths. Her paper roses were stunning. And Trend is the perfect place to rent out for a party.

We enjoyed wine and cocktails, Le Baker’s Dozen Scary Mommy cookies, Cupcakes by Carousel’s outrageously good babycakes (mini cupcakes), cheese and fruit platter and candy. We got red hair extensions in our hair from the wonderful ladies of Parlor Hair Studio (shout out to Torre and Hannah!) and got chair massages from The SkinCare Studio of Upper Montclair. There were amazing door prizes, including decadent packages of chocolate from The Chocolate Path and everyone left with a goodie bag filled with coupons and a free class at dFit.

Throughout the night, everyone was eager to purchase Jill’s book from the wonderful Margot of Watchung Booksellers, and have Jill sign it. One guest bought three and planned to give them out for Mother’s Day.

There was a ton of planning involved to get Jill here and throw her an awesome party. I have to give much credit to Holly Korus and Kristin Wald, two amazingly hard-working ladies. Kristin was great when she called out the prizes— no one got the crowd’s attention better than she. And a thank you to Marlene Lewis who was instrumental in bringing Jill to NJ. They are old college buddies.

And another huge thank you to the following local business who supported our party. Make sure you support them. They are generous Montclair business owners and also happen to be wonderful women:

Trend Coffee House & Tea
Watchung Booksellers
Parlor Hair Studio
The SkinCare Studio of Upper Montclair, located at 594 Valley Road, Second floor.
Sandler & Wald Social Media
The Chocolate Path
Cupcakes by Carousel
Le Baker’s Dozen
Amanti Vino

Loved the bash. Now how do I get this scary red extension out of my hair?

JG: You can go in to Parlor anytime and they’ll take it out for you. But I think you should keep it in. It suits you!

Or you can be crazy like me and let your husband rip it out of your head, like I did last night.

Jg – Pliers worked like a charm. I only know this because they had to move mine after putting them in to make them more visible.

I had the best time! Thanks to everyone who helped bring Scary Mommy to Montclair. I bought her book, got her autograph, but best of all I got to talk with Jill in person. Awesome!

Such a fabulous party! So glad to be part of it!

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
