Montclair High School Crew Team Continues its Impressive Season

Courtney Stith and Hannah Steffe celebrate their win.

Montclair High School teams have been collecting accolades all through spring. The MHS Crew Team is leading the pack, and has more chances to add to the glory this season!

Last weekend, an estimated 25-30,000 spectators and fans came out to watch the 86th Annual Stotesbury Cup Regatta – the world’s largest and oldest high school rowing event. Held on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River, the two-day regatta concluded with the MHS Crew Team emerging as Stotesbury’s TOP medal winning team.

With three gold medals (second by just one medal to Canada’s E.L. Crossley Secondary School), one silver, and one bronze awarded to five separate MHS boat crews, 31 Montclair athletes came home with medals. The Stotesbury Cup Regatta included more than 5,000 student-athletes from close to 200 schools from the U.S.A. and Canada. At Barista Kids, we figure that makes the MHS Crew Team an international force!

Congratulations to the entire 2012 MHS Crew Team, and good luck to them at this weekend’s Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals on the Cooper River. Ten MHS boats will again face tough competition in their last regatta of the season: 177 clubs – 131 cities – 16 states – 2 countries – and over 548 crews!  Check the  SRAA website for live streaming of the races and check out our photos in the slideshow below…
