HK Community Fund is a local non-profit serving both Maplewood and South Orange. It Mission is to foster civic engagement, promote community responsibility, and inspire action. They do many things at HKCF but by far their most important is education.

HKCF offers workshops in digital media, mindfulness, financial literacy, etc. Now HK Community Fund is offering an SAT Preparation workshop for only $25 (scholarships are available). The workshop is being offered to high school juniors and seniors who reside in South Orange or Maplewood. The students do not have to attend Columbia High School, but must otherwise be eligible to participate in the school district’s Free and Reduced Lunch program.  In addition, this will be a six week program and the student must commit to making every effort to complete it.

The instructor of this workshop is Peter Hynes.  Mr. Hynes is a Fellowship Advisor and Director of the Ruth Sharkey Academic Resource Center of Seton Hall University. Prior to coming to Seton Hall University, Peter worked as an administrator and a teacher for The Princeton Review since 2005.  He has worked extensively with teacher and tutors preparing high school students for college, as well as college students pursuing post graduate degrees.  Peter also worked in the publishing industry in New York for over 10 years. Peter received an MBA from Duke University, and a BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

This workshop will begin on July 12 in the HK Foundations Center @ 515 Valley Street Suite 130 Maplewood (close to CHS) and run for 6 weeks.
