Garden State Cat Club Marks 76th Year With America’s Biggest Cat Expo & Show, July 21 and 22

Calling all cat lovers! The Garden State Cat Club will celebrate its 76th anniversary with America’s largest Cat Expo and Show, set for Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Garden State Exhibit Center, Somerset.

The Expo is designed to educate the cat-owning public about cats, their care, new products, and training, while assisting area shelters with its Adopt-A-Cat program. The event will feature one of the top two cat shows held in the United States, and the largest of its kind on the east coast.

In addition to providing education to the general public, it is also the club’s major fundraising event.

The Expo will host activities and seminars that aim to educate pet owners and children and will provide an opportunity to “Ask a Vet” about cat health issues. Some of the topics that will be covered during the two-day event include: “Grooming,” “How to Select a Pet Sitter,” “CPR for Cats (& Dogs),” “Preparing Your Cat for Show Competitions.”

Special gifts will be available to those who adopt the first 35 cats. There will also be a Shelter Cat Contest designed to bring attention shelter cats available for adoption. Judging will take place each day for cat-egories such as best whiskers and longest tail.

Other highlights include:

Breed Showcase: Emcee CFA Judge Iris Zinck will present many of the recognized pedigreed cat breeds and will provide information about each breed’s distinguishing characteristics, their personalities, and unique needs. Visitors will also learn about the patterns and types of cat coats that may be seen in rescue animals, household pets, and pedigreed cats.

Meow Mall: Vendors of all kinds will showcase cat trees, litter accessories, cat foods, toys, grooming supplies, and cat-themed gifts. This is the “purr-fect” place to find special items/gifts for cats and cat lovers.

Cat Show: Attendees can watch more than 400 pedigreed cats and household pets compete for rosettes. Many of the cats shown will go on to be regional- and national-winning cats. Ambassador cats will roam the show hall and will be available to pet.
