We’ll be there as usual, of course, as well as the Philadelphia Mummers. But this year’s Montclair Fourth of July parade will be the first ever to include the award-winning Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Marching Band.

With a membership of 100 musicians, color guard members, and band aides, the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps is in its 33rd season.

Montclair’s July 4th parade begins at 11 a.m. and follows a 1.6-mile route which starts at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Church Street and travels west on Bloomfield Avenue to Midland Avenue, continuing to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and ending at the official reviewing stand at Edgemont Park. A family picnic will be held in the park immediately following the parade.

I’m cheering for Good ‘ol Uncle Sam. All about him on July 4th.

So if it wasn’t this band, what was the other big apple lesbian and gay band that marched in the Montclair July $ parade years ago?

You mean there will be 100 instruments coming down Midland Ave on Weds?

And what, herbe, could be gayer than our tall, thin, bearded and colorfully attired national symbol? Unless, of course, its the fantastic Philadelphia Mummers? Gotta love those guys!

And then it’s off to Tierney’s for spritzers and cosmos!

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
