Sure it was hot, but the crowds held out for the final song of Maplewoodstock 2012. Bringing down the house with “It’s 2 a.m.” was electric blues powerhouse Shemekia Copeland, the daughter of legendary Texas blues singer and guitarist Johnny Copeland. She graduated Teaneck High School and gave a few shout outs to Maplewood in her finale.
Maplewoodstock, a celebration of music and art, was completely free and staffed by volunteers. Cool circle decorations on stage were part of a community art project. Here’s their final Facebook post, sent late last night:
Goodnight y’all. We are exhausted. Thank you ALL for coming out in peace and love … enjoying the music, braving the heat, eating the food, partaking of the drink, buying the art … We are OF and FOR the community and we LOVE bringing you the BEST free weekend of music and arts we possibly can. #out
Maplewoodstock is a terrific festival!
Shamekia Copeland was one of many wonderful musicians who performed.
