John Wesley Harding, whose real name is Wesley Stace, is a folk/pop singer-songwriter and author of three novels. A native of England, he has lived for more than 20 years in Philadelphia.

The Outpost in the Burbs leads off its 25th anniversary season with the Strawbs and special guest John Wesley Harding, this Friday, Sept. 7, 8 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 67 Church St., Montclair.
An English band founded in 1964, the Strawbs began as a bluegrass group but moved on to other styles such as folk rock, glam rock and progressive rock. They are best known for their hit “Part of the Union,” which reached No. 2 in the U.K. charts in 1973. They will perform an acoustic set at the Outpost.
Tickets are $28 in advance, $32 day of show.
