So many local families participated in International Walk to School Day 2012!

Check out our great slideshow below to see for yourself:

Montclair Cooperative School celebrated with students and parents marching up the sidewalks to school. In fact, the Co-op will be walking and biking throughout the month of “WALK-tober” to promote good health and a more environmentally sustainable way to get to school.

Kids in Montclair Public Schools participated too and were met with cheers, stickers and signs. Photos from Nishuane School, Hillside School, Mt. Hebron Middle School, Watchung School, Bullock School and Bradford School are included in this slideshow. Montclair’s Mayor, Robert Jackson walked with Bullock students!

Verona’s Brookdale Avenue School students celebrated with a very special visitor— Jack the Jackal, the NJ Jackal mascot!

Thanks to all the parents, schools and PTAs who sent us photos. And thanks to Chanda Hall and Lisa Passmore, two awesome photographers, who sent us Nishuane and Hillside School photos.

If you have photos you want to include, it’s not too late! Send them to [email protected] and we’ll add them.

Great photos and AMAZING participation this year! In Montclair, 10 Public schools and the Montclair Cooperative School participated in International Walk & Bike to School Day. It was a town-wide team effort!

Public school events were coordinated by Health & Wellness Partnership parent liaisons with the guidance of Alex Kent, Montclair Safe Routes to School Coordinator. Crossing guard appreciation day was spearheaded by Bike&Walk Montclair and supported by proclamation by Montclair Town Council.

Signs for kids to carry were provided by Bike&Walk Montclair (www.bikewalkmontclair.org) and Partners for Health Foundation (www.partnersfdn.org. Clif Kid Walk to School Kits with stickers, banners and Clif Kid ZBars were provided by the Safe Routes to School National Partnership (www.saferoutespartnership.org). Some bike racks and a “Teacher Bike” were made possible by parent donations.

Congratulations Montclair on a successful International Walk & Bike to School Day! Let’s see how much walking and biking we can keep up throughout “Walk-tober” and the rest of the year!

I'm struck by how much attention is being paid to the details of a parking lot, as opposed to the attention paid to the future impact of the monstrous projects being planned.
