After years of maneuvering regulatory, political and bureaucratic roadblocks, NJ’s first state-sanctioned medical marijuana dispensary finally got the green light.
A worker at Greenleaf Compassion Center told Baristanet they’re mailing out ID cards to patients and caregivers this week, and will begin making appointments next week. Only those with an ID card and an appointment will be allowed to enter Montclair’s dispensary on Bloomfield Ave.
About 320 patients have signed up for the program, while more than 175 physicians have registered.
“This is a new product. Patients may want to make a limited purchase initially until they know which of the three available varieties best meets their needs,” said New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd.
Cannabis has been shown to relieve pain, ameliorate nausea and vomiting, stimulate hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients and lower intraocular eye pressure in glaucoma sufferers.
